More random thoughts and tidbits on what continues to be a frustrating 2010 for Chicago Cubs fans.
- One of the most telling statistics for the Cubs this season is the fact that they’ve scored two runs or less in 21 of their 53 games. Are you kidding me? Two friggin runs or less in 40% of your games? That is so unbelievably incredible to me. This alone tells me that the Cubs are likely not going anywhere this year. If you can’t score, you can’t win. This has to be one of the most inept and inopportune offenses in Cubs history. They are now 24th in the majors in regards to runs scored.
- The Cubs went from having almost every starter hitting over .300 to having all of them below .300. That is, of course, unless you consider Fontenot a starter, which may not be far off if Ramirez continues to play like a little leaguer. What I once thought might be a powerful offense, now looks more and more like a group of washed up has-beens. I’ve seen nothing recently to give me any hope that they will be able to turn things around offensively this season.
- Carlos Zambrano was rained out Wednesday, but will get his first start Friday since his demotion to the bullpen. Here’s to hoping he can pitch nine innings of shutout ball. Otherwise, he’ll likely find himself with another loss.
- I like the fact that Lou is finally switching things up. I’m hoping Nady, who has been playing much better as of late, and Colvin will continue to get a lot of playing time. And as I stated earlier, I am to the point where I wouldn’t even mind seeing Fontenot getting more time at third. Sorry Aramis, but I’ve had enough of your laziness and inability to come through with anything when runners are in scoring position.
- This is becoming one of the most frustrating Cubs teams in recent memory. It’s so hard to watch a full game this year when they’re constantly squandering scoring opportunities. At this point, I’m not sure where this team can go.
- The Cubs are going to have to start thinking about making a move pretty soon here. The most likely option to trade at this point is probably Derrek Lee. His contract runs out after this season and he will be turning 34. If we can somehow get something in return for him, it should definitely be considered.
- I’ve heard a lot of talk about the Cubs playing to their competition. They are 13-15 against teams above the .500 mark and 11-14 against all others. Looks to me like they stink either way.
- There are six teams in the National League with a record below .500, four of which come from the Central. We play in what is arguably the worst division in all of baseball and we still can’t win. Who goes 1-7 against the Pirates?
- The Cubs face Astros 0-7 Felipe Paulino Friday night. Do they give him his first win of the year? I don’t think so, but I wouldn’t put it past them.
- What the hell are we going to do when the Stanley Cup Finals are over? I don’t even want to think about it.
Yeah, it’s good, very useful, thanks
